Salazar’s “Secret Weapons” Pay off at Pre Classic

PRESS RELEASE

Salazar’s “Secret Weapons” Pay off at Pre Classic

Internationally recognized as a pioneer in the world of elite running, Alberto Salazar’s unconventional training methods have begun to pay off big for the Oregon Project athletes he coaches.

During the Pre Classic, Britain’s Mo Farah, one of Salazar’s stars, pulled out a stunning 26:46 10000m.  His time shattered the prior European record which had stood for 12 years, giving rise to the question: What is Salazar’s secret?

Salazar has many arrows in his quiver, adopting the latest training technologies as per his scientific advisors’ recommendations.  One of those “weapons” is the HydroWorx X80 underwater treadmill.

“The HydroWorx X80 is one of the most valuable pieces of equipment that I use for my athletes,” says Salazar.  “With this unit, we are able to get in extra miles to be competitive at the world class level.  It’s something that we use on a daily basis with our athletes… it could be anywhere from 25%-33% of their mileage.”

Anson Flake, president, HydroWorx, explains the value of the X80 underwater treadmill for runners at every level.  “While in the water, a person’s body weight is reduced 80-90%.  For athletes of almost any age or ability, the X80 provides the freedom to log extra miles without adding undue stress to their bodies.”

The Oregon Project runners utilize a variety of HydroWorx products at their Portland, Oregon, training center.  Additionally, a “traveling” HydroWorx X80 portable underwater treadmill is being used at the Project’s high altitude training camp sites to enable Olympic-level athletes like Farah and to safely “max out” on their weekly mileage.
