European Futbol Giants Chelsea and Manchester United Invest in HydroWorx
Middletown, PA-In professional sports, injuries are frequent and very costly. That is why Chelsea and Manchester United, currently first and second respectively in the 05/06 Premiership Standings, purchased a HydroWorx pool complete with a variable speed underwater treadmill and directional resistance jets and video monitoring system. 2004-05 was the most successful season in the history of Chelsea futbol club.
They secured the Premiership title in a record breaking season by gaining 95 points along with setting records for: most wins (29), fewest goals against (15), and most clean sheets (25) in a 38 game season.
To build on that success and ensure Chelsea’s players had the premier rehabilitation device in its training room, Chelsea purchased HydroWorx’ flagship model – the HydroWorx 2000.
The entire floor doubles as an 8’ x 12’ variable speed treadmill that smoothly increases from 0 to 8.5 mph in safe .2 mph increments. The treadmill surface has a cushioned low-impact design with excellent traction. Underwater cameras allow trainers to observe movements and diagnose gait irregularities.
Manchester United is one of the most successful clubs in England, having won the FA Premier League/Futbol League fifteen times, FA Cup eleven times and the European Cup/UEFA Champions League twice, and has the highest average attendance in English football for the majority of the past 50 seasons.
According to Rob Swire, Head Physiotherapist for the Manchester United Futbol Club, "HydroWorx provides better all around conditioning and strengthening." For that reason, Manchester United purchased a HydroWorx 500 Series Pool for their Carrington Training Centre.
Athletes can heal faster when they rehabilitate injuries on a HydroWorx underwater treadmill, many top trainers say. In the near weightless environment of an underwater treadmill, an athlete can walk or run without over-taxing the joint.
The pools are great training tools as well. Running legend and long distance coach Alberto Salazar incorporates HydroWorx treadmill workouts into his athletes’ routines at the Nike Oregon Project. Salazar believes that adding miles without adding wear and tear is the key to the rebirth of glory for American distance runners.
