Aquatic Therapy Program Helps Improve Mobility

Aquatic Therapy Program Helps Improve Mobility

The Dove Healthcare Center has implemented an aquatic therapy program at its facility.  T.J. Ivancevich uses this program, which implements a HydroWorx Pool, to overcome his battle with cerebral palsy.

Aquatic therapist, Chase O’Keefe, works with T.J. on a weekly basis.  He has realized the drastic improvement of his mobility in the HydroWorx pool.  O’Keefe tells us how, at the beginning, T.J was unable to easily get into the pool.  “When he first came in he had knee braces on.  We basically had to sit him into our pool.”  The HydroWorx height-adjustable floor does provide assistance to T.J. and others with a physical challenge, by easily lowering the floor into the water.  With underwater cameras, doctors can monitor his gait pattern.   The buoyancy of water has allowed him to move freely underwater by reducing his body weight that would hold him back on land.
O’Keefe is hopeful that T.J. will continue seeing improvement.  He says, “It’s been able to not put all that gravity on him.  He’s been able to balance on his legs a little bit better- kind of be able to pick himself up- so that he’s able to do some more walking, become more functional, and hopefully get out of his wheelchair."  He has been able to build core strength and begin moving more freely, without assistance, in the pool.
HydroWorx wishes T.J. continued success at improving his mobility.
