Triathlete Trains Post-Accident
Talented triathlete Dave Cummings was training on his bicycle when he was struck by a driver on a cell phone and dragged beneath his car. His femur was broken in three places and the compound fracture severed his femoral artery and vein; as a result, he lost 68 percent of his blood. In addition, his collarbone was broken, his shoulder separated, two vertebrae were broken in his back, and the disc between T12 and L1 was crushed. Three ribs were broken as well. His desire to train aerobically despite his physical limitations prompted him to seek out training in the HydroWorx pool at ACCUA.
